For Immediate Release:
Colorado Springs’ business, 1350 Distilling announced today they released their newest spirit on December 7, 2020 in remembrance of Pearl Harbor Day and to honor the only four sailors that have held the highest rank of “Fleet Admiral”: Leahy, King, Nimitz, and Halsey.
Made primarily from Louisiana molasses and Colorado sugar beets, the Fleet Admirals’ Aged Rum is distilled in their one-of-a-kind, “Rocket Still” and aged over six months in used bourbon barrels.
“The barrels held our Code Four 115 Proof Cask Strength Straight Bourbon and our Guardian Bourbon whiskeys for three years prior to holding the Fleet Admirals,” said Phill Bragg, President and Head Distiller of 1350 Distilling. “The sweet corn and heavy char barrel wood converts the rum into a pale to medium straw color. The aging process rounds out the finish into a smooth, caramel and butterscotch sipping rum,” said Bragg.
The Fleet Admirals’ Aged Rum is the eighth product released by 1350 Distilling since opening in November 2019. It marks the fifth spirit they have released in 2020, and the third release to occur during business closure due to COVID.. It is the second of three rums planned to be made by the company. The first was their 2019 release, the Blue Jacket Rum that pays homage to the men and women of the U.S. Navy. The third is a spiced rum expected to be released in 2021.
All products can be purchased at the 1350 Distilling Taste Lounge located at 520 E. Pikes Peak Avenue in Downtown Colorado Springs or at numerous liquor stores in the Pikes Peak, Pueblo, Castle Rock and Denver locations. All of their locations can be found on their website at 1350DISTILLING.COM.
1350 Distilling’s name is inspired by the 13 stripes and 50 stars of the Star Spangled Banner. Each product represents a different military branch or first responder. The business is veteran, teacher and women-owned. Ten percent of profits are pledged towards local veteran and family non-profit charities.
